A fun small town, Coulee City. Be a Couleegan
Location
Coulee City Campground
Wow, what a place. Donna and I really liked Banks Lake. We arrived fairly late (2030 PDT). The sun was about to set on the bluffs, wonderful time spent exploring the campground at sunset. The census was low so we picked a nice spot against a hill and close to the lake. Forty dollars a night for full hookups. The campground was ~35 miles from Grand Coulee Dam. The drive over from Thousand Trails Leavenworth was easy enough a few hours and a little bit of mountain roads. The campground in Coulee City had a connected trail that touched the river bank and neighborhood behind. I put a few miles on the gravel bike searching for hills and dirt roads. Eastern Washington is exceptionally beautiful, I would consider living here if winter temperatures did not get below 0 degrees F.
Banks Lake Brew and Bistro
Banks Lake Brew and Bistro was a fun visit, walking distance from the campground I stopped in for biscuits and gravy and a breakfast sandwich. I was chatted up by the locals drinking coffee. Quick conversation about travels, my desire to see dams and other control systems. The line of questioning from the local was if I think that dam infrastructure should be removed. My answer, As a general observation dams provide critical flood control and in most cases should not be removed. Additionally the stored power behind them is massive. However, I feel that in some cases a dam could be removed if the services are no longer needed, Hetch Hetchy might be a good example of a dam that could be removed. The main challenge being the cost of removing the infrastructure.
Couleegans Bar and grill
Donna and I played billiards here. We stuck out like tourists in Santa Monica. The bartender was nice and the food was good. I had some yummy ribs and Donna had a ham grinder. We enjoyed our meal and left a bit tipsy as the bartender was keeping our glasses full. This was a fun evening on the town, we both left with happy feelings about the people, town, and environment.
