Marfa
Where we camped
Marfa Yacht Club (Airstream RV Park)
The Yacht club was a fun experience. I want to say all good things, however I have to say, it was mostly run down. Honestly I don’t feel that the people running it care much for the infrastructure or services they provide. It’s fun to see many airstreams on site, however the maintenance concerns are everywhere. A simple example is that chairs supplied are not safe to sit in. Inspecting the chairs it was clear they had been broken for a long time, which to me means that they are just there for looks. In design the park was well thought out with native plants, gravel road ways and parking areas that were covered. The water and the power worked and the site was close enough to the “city”.
Chinati Foundation
We took a tour of the Chinati grounds. Visited all the major installations. I like the idea of permanent art installations. It was fun seeing all the aluminum boxes, the crushed sculptures and the fluorescent light rails. Watched the presentation on John Chamberlin and it made me really uncomfortable. My take away was the dude (Chamberlain) was getting all wasted with a bunch of young kids south of the border with in my opinion was inappropriate contact. The tour guide presented John Chamberlain as a person who liked to party and he and Donald Judd were close. I left feeling disgusted.
Marfa has a execution problem
Marfa is a strange place for many reasons. What impacted us the most was trying to enjoy local services, grocery, dining, fuel, basically any service that relies on local workers is a gamble. For instance we spent more then one afternoon walking around to restaurants that were close when they were supposed to be open. Talking to the tour guide at Chinati it was made clear that local talent was not interested in working.
A Marfa kale salad
Here is a picture of a kale salad and chicken we ordered for lunch. As you can tell, the establishment grabbed a piece of kale, dressed it, and tossed it on a plate. This hodgepodge is just one of the small examples of the Marfa execution problem.Do better, this is not edible

Restaurant Cochineal
We visited Restaurant Cochineal. The food was not good. The steak had a char flavor that tasted like olive oil that had caught on fire in the pan. I could not believe how bad the food was for how good it was supposed to be.
Bordo
A star of the show in Marfa is Bordo. Go here, the food is wonderful. The abilities of Bordo give me high hopes for what Marfa can become.
The Dogs
DooWee
Doowee Doowee was solo on this trip. Minny passed a few weeks earlier while in Louisiana. He was coping the best he could, like the rest of us. Doowee did get a chance to visit the Marfa “Prada” store. Which is not in Marfa (+39 miles outside of the city). Take seriously the dust storms that roll across west Texas.
