Pecan Grove RV Park. The location was awesome, sites small, tough/technical back in. Like any good Realtor says, location, location, location. We would happily stay here again. The location was awesome, central to all the things we wanted to experience in Austin.

Austin was our final BBQ stop

Austin was the final destination on my BBQ tour. I would like to be clear, the BBQ adventures are purely for me. Donna doesn’t like smoked food. I am surprised Donna is willing to be in the trailer with me as I am consuming BBQ nearly everyday. I have the highest confidence I smelled of burnt wood, rendered fat, BBQ sauce, and booze for multiple days in a row over multiple weeks.

I ate so much BBQ that I was glad that Austin was the last stop. I feel that I full plates and nearly all the great BBQ spots. I know a few others I need to hit, however the remaining places will need to scheduled in a separate trip.

Snows BBQ

Snows was a trip in itself, we planned to get to Lexington, Texas on Friday, Park the RV down the street, get some sleep, then walk to Snows at 3am. This ideas was a success as I was 23rd in line at 3:15 AM. By opening time ~7:30 over 300 people were in line. I had a fun time in line, made friends, the atmosphere was lively. The owner was walking around raffling things off, the booze was free. All in all I would go back to Snows. It was not the best in my opinion, although it was good. Terry Blacks

Terry Blacks is good. I really liked it. What I think I like the most; it is popular and of high quality, however you don’t have to wait for hours to get food. A quick line is always present and they are open nearly every day. Additionally they are making enough BBQ to serve most, if not all of the patrons that arrive on a day.

Franklin Barbecue

Franklin is likely the most popular BBQ spot. I was able to take a tour of the smoke house, ask questions about the smoking process, and engage with the pit masters. Franklin was good, I am happy I went.

InterSteller

InterSteller is top notch. I waited in line for a few hours arriving at least 2 hours prior to open. I am glad I was able to get a spot and have all the menu items I wanted. I was blown away by their Turkey. For me Turkey is a staple in BBQ and a true gauge of a expert pit master. In my opinion Turkey is hard to smoke and make it awesome. InterSteller did it perfect.

Upon leaving one of the pitmasters engaged me and we had a long conversation about smoking meat. We discussed his recipe and brine for Turkey and his thoughts on InterSteller, the general BBQ scene. I left the conversation feeling his passion for BBQ.

Burnt Bean

Hands down my favorite brisket. The turkey was also excellent. Honestly everything was executed at such a high level. I was impressed. I also really liked they had a wash basin on the patio.

The Salt Lick

I fell that The Salt Lick is more of a destination then a BBQ Restaurant. The Turkey was ok, the ribs were ok, the brisket wasn’t good. I expected the food to be much better. The experience was more about the facility then the BBQ. The PIT is amazing, the grounds are awesome, parking the RV was easy.

Pinkertons

Pinkertons was good. We sat outside with the dogs, had a beer, and consumed much BBQ.

2M Smokehouse

I liked the food, the seating was challenging. We rode our bikes, the sun was shining and everything was hot. I would’ve appreciated much more shade then what was available.
