We left the KOA in North Glacier exactly at checkout time (1100). We were slotted for a ~200 mile drive. Getting on the road was easy, leaving Glacier was a little harder. I feel that we left some things undone here. I think next year we will spend time on both sides of the park (West and East). Visiting Glacier was awesome, I look forward to seeing it again. I would stay at the KOA again, the amenities were awesome, it’s likely I did not use all of them.

After two hours on the road I started hassling Donna for a snack and/or lunch. A quick search on her phone indicated no places to stop until we were to arrive in Helena (+3 hours). We snacked on goldfish and gummy worms, then rolled up to a little town Seeley Lake. This town had all the things we could possible want, Fuel, BBQ, and a ice cream parlor. Donna jumped out and assessed The BBQ pit on my behalf, ordering me a pulled pork sammie, beans and coleslaw. The BBQ was excellent.

BBQ

Donna visited the Ice Cream Place ordered a cheeseburger and a vanilla malt. The malt made Donna very happy, reminding her of days past.

Apple maps was wrong, we found great things in Seeley Lake, MT. We are happy we stopped and would highly recommend either place for roadside food.

Full of all things good (Food, fuel, and Vanilla Malt), we continued on to Helena, MT. I lamented about the BBQ a few times as we progressed toward Helena.

In Helena we took a “train” tour through the city. Learned about why so much Victorian architecture was present, rolled through neighborhoods where 1900s mansions were built. The tour was interesting covering the history of gold mining, the immense amount of wealth mining brought, and the tidbits of corruption that were present. trail

In general the food was not great in Helena. Honestly the Pizza at Costco was better then a specialty pizza place we visited

My favorite building in Helena. box

Notes

The KOA is further out of town then we were thinking. Helena has many resupply stations, which is why it was a main stop for us. Costco and Discount Tire were on the list of must visits. Olive needs new tires, getting them in Montana saves a few dollars in taxes we would pay in Arizona or California. The smoke from nearby fires (Idaho, California, Oregon) was oppressive. It did make for beautiful sunsets. sunset
