The Matterhorn campground. Telluride, CO
The Matterhorn Campground
The Matterhorn is our favorite campground in Southern Colorado. The campground is quaint, tree lined, close to town yet far from town, has excellent walking, and accessible. Mentioning accessible, I really mean that we have always been able to get in. The stay limit is 7 days with 14 days out. The stay limits make sure that the campground is always churning. This year was the first time we visited at high season. It was wonderful even when it rained every afternoon. Fall is a different time, it is shoulder season, less people camping, and the leaves changing. Fall is our favorite time to travel. Fall usually yields excellent temperatures with plants taking on a new cycle. The Aspen are some of our favorites to view as the brilliant colors are abundant. Related to taking pictures this fall, Donna said, “Click and Win”, meaning, point your camera anywhere, click it, and get a great picture. Sometimes pictures don’t capture all the beauty, if beauty is overwhelming it is often the camera can represent some of it. Our time in southern Colorado has been exceptionally rewarding. We ave enjoyed excellent walks/hikes with the dogs, hard bike rides, and good company.
Cycling
The Matterhorn is ~9600 feet of elevation, allowing for excellent cycling. My favorite rides are around Priest Lake and the 145 to Telluride. Every ride is a minimum of 2K feet of climb, allowing for good use of lungs, oxygen, and stamina. My first few days here it always takes me longer to recoup from rides then anywhere else.

Minny and Doowee
Minny also enjoys The Matterhorn, she is often found outside the camper enjoying peace and the trees. Doowee really likes the distribution service that rolls around in golf carts. The humans call them camp hosts. The camp hosts at The Matterhorn have trained Doowee that anybody in a golf cart has head pats and a cookie.
