Dolores with Arizona Airstream Club

Location

The Views RV Park, the place is awesome, it’s run by extremely competent and nice people. We showed up a bit early, which is not common for us. After a quick introduction, check-in, and some coffee talk, Matt took us out to our site. Looking around the park much care has been taken to make every site nice. The sites are huge, level, and well maintained. Before any site is occupied the maintenance team levels the rocks in the site. The name implies we would have a view, we did. The walking paths around the facility are awesome, a winding trail crossing cacti and sage. Walking around the park was also fun. We were at the views to attend an airstream rally, talking to other airstream people is fun.

I liked chatting coffee with Matt and we had an opportunity to connect over a cup of Square Mile’s Regalia.

We experienced a hail storm and took some damage to Olive. She now has pits. Huge bummer, however we will figure out what steps to take.

The grocer in Dolores is great. They make homemade pot pies and have an excellent produce section. The produce section is stored in a walk-in cooler. Many good greens and stone fruit were available to us. The prices can get out of whack, but I don’t really care, they had what we needed.

The thing about airstream rallies.

Rallies need younger people like us, they all say it. As a club, the median membership age is a decade maybe two ahead of us. Donna and I have always been able to engage with people of all ages, races, and political views. It is a wonderful country that we live in that supports our freedoms. Occasionally the curmudgeonly can ruin an evening: We ran into a situation where attendees wanted to talk about waging a civil war if they did not get their way in a upcoming election. I support you in having beliefs, especially beliefs that are contrary to my own, however, please stop talking about killing your neighbors because you disagree with them.

We did meet great people, I really enjoy the connection and community that rallies provide. I look forward to future rallies with all attendees.

Announcements were happening daily at nearly every gathering. I feel it would have been helpful to also put critical points into written form. If a update memo/bullet point email was sent, miscommunication about dinner times and community events would not have happened.

The morning meetup was awesome, it had community, good conversation, expertly toasted bagels and fixings. We attended daily.

Although the facilities were awesome huge props to the Views RV Park, the seating arrangements at dinners and other gatherings were hard. A place to sit and engage with other attendees was meet with frustration. On more then one occasion I or Donna was told off cause we were to close to somebody or we bumped into them.

Areas for improvement:

  1. Have and setup a formal communication method (Email) for each rally
  2. Use round tables, organize seating better, evaluate overflow seating.
  3. Get feedback and make iterative changes.
