Waterfalls have been a key stop on this trek. I had never considered the different types, sources, and environments waterfalls impact. Like many of the places we visit, it's unlike anything we have seen before.

Where we camped

Burney Falls Trailer Resort

I would stay here again. Good access to Burney Falls. The ammenities were funny in a quirky way. The staff was nice. The owner/caretaker was engaged with every trailer arrival. He was nice. Our site had a constant water leak, which I am confident had been present for many months. Although I reported the leak to him, he didn’t seem interested in fixing it. I often find myself highly concerned about water leaking/waste.

If I were to visit again, I would like to stay at the state parks campground (Depending upon temperature).

The falls were really impressive. With all of our visits to waterfalls recently I have been tracking types of waterfalls we have visited. Burney falls is a spring feed block waterfall/curtain waterfall. Meaning that the water cascades down and through the basalt rock. The source of water is a spring that has a wide source entering the waterfall. Wikipedia has a nice write up on different types of water falls. It’s worth a read.

Dogs are not allowed to walk the trails or anywhere near the falls. We hiked the full loop (~1.5 miles) The walk was enjoyable with great views of the falls. Many people were swimming in the pools beneath the falls. The micro climate around the falls was quite enjoyable with an abundance of greenery and shade. The temperatures were quite cool and Donna and I had a great time meandering around. The state park has a vehicle fee which I think was $10. We arrived later in the afternoon and didn’t get the opportunity to peruse visitor services. The campground onsite is primitive

Did you know that you can check out from your library state park passes? I didn’t however I really like the idea of giving state park passes to library card holders. Good job California.
