Kicking off the Fall tour
Off on another set of trips. This year we decided to start the “Watch Fall, fall tour” in Glacier National Park. We have been planning this trip for a few months. Usually we do not plan our stops/camps more then a few days out. We are scheduled for our first three weeks a month plus in advance. A few things triggered this planning need.
The Harvest Host locations we wanted to visit needed advanced notice (No same day arrivals). Glacier National Park and the surrounding campgrounds were showing “mostly booked”, and we wanted to hustle up to the North. Very few things make traveling faster then setting a schedule and trying to adhere to it. Our trek up to Glacier National Park will happen over four days. Then we can relax as we will have 8 days of no towing.
Donna has been feeling left out from bicycle rides. Although I usually bring a road bike, she wanted a more capable bike to ride. We started the search for a new bike a few weeks ago and finally settled on a Thomus pedal assist gravel bike. Normally traveling with two bikes, adding a third created a few complications. We use a Sea Sucker Mini Bomber which holds two bikes. I ordered a new Sea Sucker Talon rack. Staggering the units easily adds a third bike location. I did have challenges finding inserts for the 110mm through axle. I needed to print the inserts at home, since I was not able to receive the parts in a timely manner.
Leaving Santa Monica is hard during the day, so we will start this trip at night like many others. In my many maintenance tasks while at home the last few months, one of them was to install flood lamps on the back of the truck. As I continue to age my night time eyesight is compromised. Having additionally light will make setup at night easier. I am really happy with the amount of light the floods supply. The upfitter switches make it easy to wire things to internal switches on the RAM. However the pulling of wires is a dirty job. I had fun doing the work, however mechanic type work involves muscles not normally in use. I was sore for a few days after.

Notes
We stayed at the Yermo Harvest Host (Peggy Sue’s Diner). Good stop over location. Is a dirt lot allowing for free dry camping. The parking lot has goat heads, Doowee found a few with his feet.
