I highly suggest this drive if on the 101, Avenue of the Giants
Location
Notes
We drove most of the Avenue of Giants. As the driver I didn’t get to see much, Donna was pointing out many pretty and astounding landscapes. Leaving Mystic Falls RV we were destined for Russian River. The Thousand Trails(TT) didn’t have a vacancy, I have a hard time believing it. Who am I to argue, we drove by. We cruised into the Windsor Russian River Brewery, parked Olive and I ran inside. Donna stayed behind to feed the dogs. She would catch up, allowing me to visit the gift shop and grab a beer. I had a R+D IPA and a Pliny the Elder. The beers were good, however we needed to get back on the road. With TT full, we decided to stay at the KOA in Petaluma.
The Park was nice, I referred to it as apartment living. So many trailers and people, it was like a never ending party of children on bikes and adults sitting at campfires. It was nice to see community. We left Petaluma around 0930 and continued down the 101. Eventually winding up in San Francisco. Driving in the city was a challenge with Olive. A marathon was was wrapping up which had us trapped in gridlock for 1 hour. We made the best of it, maneuvering the best we could and not blocking intersections allowing traffic to clear(around us). We made our way to Morgan Hill. Finding a place to park was tough (in Morgan Hill), I had to do multiple 3 point turns in Olive to get us in a safe place. Donna found a BBQ place for my lunch Trail Dust BBQ. I thought it was great BBQ. I ordered half a pound of tri-tip and a BBQ pork sandwich, Donna had Mac and cheese and some toast. Donna is not a fan of smoked food, or meat for that matter. After lunch we got on the road to stay at a harvest host in San Miguel.
