Button snap failure, a possible fix
As of June 2026 I have had all the button snaps riveted in place without any failures. I am happy with this modification and would highly suggest it over a screw.

Replacing the Button Snap

The button snaps that hold the cushions in place on our unit are held in with screws. Over time these screws pull out, causing the cushion to be in unexpected places on travel days.

When the button snaps fail they are easy to detect since the screws holding them in place appear stripped. Or the button pulls completely out and you have a screw hanging from the button and strap risking poking a hole in your leather couch.

I ordered a few new button snaps to test if riveting in place will provide better fastening.

I used normal 1/8th inch aluminum pop rivets to hold them in place.
Old and New

Replacement was easy.

  1. Remove the old screw and button snap.
  2. Pull rivet from inventory and find rivet gun.
  3. Install rivet and button snap
  • This solution works well. I have replaced all the failed factory button snaps with rivet insets.
