Penelope Penny Pepper Pots

Penelope Penny Pepper Pots
Penelope joined our family after Minny’s passing. How Penelope joined us is here
Penelope came with the name “Pepper” and we felt it needed to be changed. Although she liked the name, we felt it would hold negative connotation. Her life was spent in a garage, not being fed prior to coming to us. She was full of love instantly and clearly wanted to please. Her manners were not good, I would refer to much of her behavior as feral. She knew that she wanted to please, however the only exposure she had with humans had been highly negative. Examples of this mindset became quickly evident as she would coward with any correction, in addition to being starved, confined, she was also hit. From what I am able to tell, she was likely hit with anything within reach. She would cower to the leash, a glass, a stick, basically anything. A name change was required, for the first few weeks we did not use the name “pepper” at all. We started treating her with respect, correcting her when necessary, rewarding good interactions and teaching her that she was capable of making good decisions.
After a week or so of discussing names, (running through the alphabet for names we knew), we liked “Penelope and Penny”. After getting her stabilized in our routines, we started calling her Penelope. A few weeks later the alliteration started and she became “Penelope Penny Pepper Pots”. Here personality quickly showed she was a pesky girl who was pretty. Now I always introduce her as Penelope Penny Pepper Pots, with a caveat that sometime she is pesky, sometimes she is pretty, but mostly she is Pretty pesky, Penelope Penny Pepper Pots.
